Imperialism on trial
Project reaflection
For this project we started off by reading the book Things fall apart, by Chinua achebe. The book was about british imperialism and the life of africans before there was any colonialism. For our trial we did it on Okonkwo's death and the community of umuofia was blaming the british empire for his death and all the problems that they had in their new life. Once we started to get ready for the trial we all got roles for if we would be, lawyers, jurors, witnesses, bailiff and the judge and according to your position you would prepare for the trial.
When we got put in our roles, we had to get ready and prepare all of our things for the trial. I was a witness and had to write a testimony for the project, in which I felt accomplished about and was confident with all the prep that I had done for the trial. but then got switched places out of the blue even though I had already prepped for a witness. My new position was being an usher, which meant that I had to hand out pamphlets and take photos of the trial while it was in session. And after the trial I was told that i needed to make a edited video on the trial.
I think that the main skill that I grew in was just gaining knowledge on court skills because before this project I didn't know anything about the court or how it worked, so kinda went into this project with a blindfold on. I also think that I could have learned a lot more if I hadn't been switched, because I was ready to do a good job and was getting the jist of it and then got switched to a position that didn't really have any beneficial part to our project
The main thing that I take away from this project it the hole imperialism part. Just understanding more in depth with what happened in africa and how it came about that africa got taken over by the british and not in anyway was it kind. I learned a lot of new vocabulary that never knew from before and now am able to name you lots of states from the african continent.
